The History of PartyLite®

The Beginning of PartyLite®

In the early 1900s a schoolteacher named Mabel Baker began making candles, from wild berries, in her native Cape Cod. She first gave the candles away as gifts to family and friends but soon realized she could turn her love of candles into a business. With lots of hard work and persistence, including the help of her husband, Mabel started selling her candles in 1909. When Mabel Baker died in 1965, at the age of 94, her business was worth $6 million.

After Mable Baker

In 1973 Mabel Baker's candle company created a subsidiary called PartyLite® Gifts Inc. Just as more American women were working outside the home the people at PartyLite® came up with a new sales model. They created a system were the profits are shared with the salespeople and those sales people sale, not to companies, but to individual people. The idea took off and the company has expanded to include thousands of Independent Consultants world wide.

Blyth Inc.

When PartyLite® was acquired by Blyth Inc. in 1990, the organization's full potential was unleashed. Today PartyLite® has over 68,000 Consultants worldwide and an extensive selection of top-quality home fragrances and accents with 100 or more new products each year. PartyLite® is dedicated to providing the highest quality candles on the market. No more half-burnt candles or pillar candles that collapse in on themselves. PartyLite® Candle's burn clean and completely to insure total customer satisfaction.
